Amouri, a twenty-two year old recording artist hailing from Brooklyn, NY, has begun to build a career off of a unique fusion of Alternative Rock and RnB genres. While her lyrics pertain mainly to subject matter that would be found in RnB, the production of each song contains instrumentation that could be found within Alternative Rock. This medley of genres is not only unique, but brings new life to common themes such as love, relationships, and all of the mental gymnastics that comes with them.

In her upcoming project, titled “My Name Means Love,” Amouri explores the above concepts in depth, allowing the listeners to follow her introspective journey of analyzing a past relationship, and how she can apply those lessons to the love that Amouri knows awaits her. The project spans ten tracks, strategically placed in an order that feels chronological to the listener. While the first few tracks address her wariness as she commits to a new relationship, you can hear as she slowly comes to terms with the lessons that past experiences have taught her, eventually leading toward Amouri reassuring herself that all will be well. 

In the opening track titled “Overstep,” Amouri touches on the reasons why she remains cautious in her relationships. Through the emotion in her vocals and the soft melodies, it becomes clear to the listener that she has a heart of gold, and is now at a point where she understands that she needs to protect that. Unrequited love is a theme that carries over the first half of the project, highlighted not only through the lyrics, but the tone of the tracks as well: Chilled out beats paired beautifully with melodic vocals. By the end of the project, in the track “Eternal,” it feels as though Amouri has come to terms with her past, and is beginning to look forward to the future in a positive manner. Through the bulk of the project, there is a sense of self-empowerment that hits a climax during the final track, where she feels ready for whatever is yet to come. 

Amouri’s artistry is on full display with this project, sure to turn the head of any avid fan of real music. As watered down as the industry may seem these days, “My Name Means Love” will serve as a reminder that there is still real art being created in the underground. As you listen to Amouri’s game of mental tug-of-war, you will surely relate to a lot of the themes that come up in her verses. Relatability for any artist is key for generating fans, and Amouri hit the nail on the head with this one. Regardless of genre affiliation (of which there really is none here), Amouri is able to speak her truth across ten tracks that feel cohesive, making this an extremely strong project.
